Ross Announces Original Co-Sponsorships of Several Measures to Fund Social Security, Medicare, Veterans Benefits

Congressman Dennis A. Ross today announced original co-sponsorships of several measures to require the federal government to fund Social Security, Medicare, Veterans benefits, and other necessary services while Congress negotiates needed spending reductions.

Congressman Ross is an original co-sponsor of the Prioritize Spending Act of 2011 (H.R. 2402). This legislation would:

- Prevent default by paying our debt
- Provide the pay and allowances of those who defend our freedoms
- Provide the Social Security and Medicare benefits

Congressman Ross is an original co-sponsor of the Guarantee Paychecks for America's Military Families Act (HR 1551). This would, in the event of a shutdown or other period where all federal obligations could not be paid, ensure that military service-members and their families are prioritized and paid out of existing monthly revenues.

Congressman Ross is an original co-sponsor of the Ensuring Pay for Our Military Act of 2011 (HR 1297). This would perform many of the same functions of HR 1551.

Congressman Ross anticipates announcing another piece of legislation Friday to ensure Social Security recipients are paid out of existing revenues as well.

Upon co-sponsoring these bills, Congressman Ross said, "It is clear that this President seems intent on vilifying private enterprise and scaring seniors, rather than leading. The fact of the matter is, if Seniors or service men and women do not get paid, it will be only because the President chose not to pay them. The American Treasury takes in more than enough money from tax revenue monthly to pay Social Security, Medicare, essential defense, interest on our debt, and more. This President needs to understand that American taxpayers were serious in November when they said enough is enough."
