Funds Will Provide Education Opportunities for Low-Income Students

U.S. Representative Mike McIntyre announced today that Fayetteville State University will receive more than $1.2 million in federal funds to provide academic and other support services to low-income, first-generation or disabled college students over the next five years.

Congressman McIntyre stated, "This is a great victory for Cumberland County! These funds will increase retention and graduation rates, and foster a climate supportive of the success of low-income and first generation college students, and students with disabilities. Congratulations to all the great folks at Fayetteville State University for their work in securing these federal dollars."

These funds, which, are appropriated by Congress, will be awarded under the Student Support Services Program through the U.S. Department of Education, will also be used to provide tutorial services, academic counseling, transfer assistance, and admission support to students in need.
