Debt Crisis Must be Addressed Through Shared Sacrifice

Location: Washington, DC

Today, Congressman Steve Rothman (D-NJ), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, released the following statement on H.R. 2560, the Republican bill that will be voted on tonight:

The Republicans' budget proposal is wrong and will hurt our country. It will lead to drastic cuts in Medicare and Social Security, while unfairly protecting tax breaks for those who make millions and billions of dollars in income each year. The Republican plan represents exactly the type of extreme legislation that keeps us from solving our nation's fiscal crisis.

Supporters should withdraw this shameful bill and work responsibly with both Democrats and Republicans to create American jobs, avoid a default crisis, and ensure that America pays its bills.
