Reacting to new government data showing a jump in unemployment, Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack (CA-45) today released the following statement:

"With unemployment continuing to rise, it's clear that the White House's economic policies have been a complete and dismal failure. America deserves better. In the two years since the stimulus spending bill was enacted, more than 1.5 million jobs have been lost and the nationwide unemployment rate has averaged 9.5 percent.

"We can put millions of Americans back to work again by dramatically cutting non-essential government spending, reducing our nation's staggering debt, overhauling the U.S. tax code, enacting meaningful regulatory reforms and placing a greater emphasis on domestic energy production. President Obama's answer -- new taxes -- will only make a bad situation worse.

"In a country with 150 million workers, adding just 18,000 new jobs in June should serve as a long overdue wakeup call for the President and his economic advisors."
