Congressman Spencer Bachus (AL-6) today called for approval of the Cut, Cap, and Balance Act.
Bachus is a cosponsor of the measure to control and reduce government spending, which is scheduled for a vote on the House floor next Tuesday. The act has three main components: real spending cuts for FY 2012, firm caps on future spending, and House and Senate passage of a Balanced Budget Amendment prior to any increase in the debt limit.
Bachus released the following statement.
"The solution to the debt limit is not even more borrowing. It is to cut spending. Cutting spending and reducing the debt will have immediate economic benefits at a time when unemployment remains unacceptably high, and it is critical to putting us on a path to fiscal sustainability. The American people are expecting leadership from Washington at a time when hard choices need to be made, not the spend-and-borrow approach that has put us in such a deep hole. House Republicans are demonstrating leadership," said Congressman Bachus.
