Debt Debate by the Numbers

Statement

By Rep. Westmoreland

As the discussions on the debt ceiling continue between President Obama and Speaker John Boehner through the weekend, I wanted to take this opportunity to look back on the last few years of Democrat control in Washington and also pass on some interesting facts to those following this debate. Because while they claim their demands for tax increases are the only "responsible' approach to dealing with our debt, I think the facts tell a different story.

BREAK IN TRANSCRIPT

As you can see from these numbers, the Democrats spent the last two years not giving a second thought to the staggering debt they were accumulating with the American taxpayer's credit card. Now, they want to raise taxes on small businesses and American farmers and ranchers to pay for their spending spree? I'm not sure about you, but I just don't see their logic. They had two years with control of the White House and both chambers of Congress and all they did was increase our national debt by almost 40% and make our economic crisis worse with their overly burdensome regulations and tax increases.
