Today, Congressman Mike Michaud voted against the Fiscal Year 2012 Defense Appropriations bill, which contains over $118 billion for the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. While Michaud opposed the bill, he successfully passed two amendments to it. One amendment would provide a funding boost for research into Gulf War Illness and the other would require the Department of Defense to procure certain categories of products from American manufacturers.
"While I was pleased that the House of Representatives passed two amendments that I pushed, I couldn't vote to continue the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan," said Michaud. "Like all Americans, I'm proud of the hard work and selfless sacrifice of our brave men and women in uniform. But with Bin Laden dead and Al Qaeda largely driven out of Afghanistan, our troops have accomplished their mission and it's time for them to come home. We need to stop nation building abroad and invest in rebuilding America and creating jobs here at home."
