Kelly believes America's existing energy policy is severely flawed and must be replaced with a forward-looking plan that reduces our dependence on foreign energy sources.
She brings a comprehensive approach to this challenge. To reduce our dependence on foreign regimes that are hostile to the United States, she wants to expand domestic sources of energy - including environmentally responsible oil and natural gas production.
Kelly also supports fostering a pro-business climate to develop clean energy technologies that will help reduce pollution and drive job creation. All renewable, clean, and sustainable energy sources, such as wind, solar, hydropower, geothermal, and biomass should be allowed to compete on a level playing field - without Congress picking winners and losers in the marketplace.
Additionally, Kelly recognizes that clean and reliable nuclear power is essential to reducing America's dependence on fossil fuels. Nuclear power accounts for just 20 percent of the electricity that is generated in the United States, but 70 percent of our carbon-free electricity. In contrast, France generates 80 percent of its electricity from nuclear power. As Congress addresses our country's long-term energy needs, Kelly considers responsible nuclear energy generation to be a common sense component of a workable, comprehensive energy plan.
