Congressman David Rivera (FL-25) released the following statement about the June jobs report released this morning by the Bureau of Labor Statistics that saw the unemployment rate rise to 9.2 percent.
"The jobs numbers released today continue to show how President Obama and the Democrats' fiscal irresponsibility is negatively impacting the country. 14.1 million Americans are unemployed. 44 percent of those who cannot find work have not been able to do so for 27 weeks or more, and many of them have been unemployed for over a year.
"Only 18,000 jobs were created in June, and the Bureau of Labor Statistics had to adjust the May report, cutting the number of jobs actually created by half. These abysmal job numbers are a result of uncertainty among job creators.
"Democrats haven't passed a budget in 800 days. The President's budget was unanimously rejected by the Senate. The White House and Congressional Democrats have yet to present a jobs plan. When a business doesn't know if it will have to contend with new costly regulations, mandates or taxes, they have no incentive to hire employees or invest in new projects. Instead, it makes them hesitant and our economy stalls.
"More government spending and imposing additional burdens on American businesses and families are not stimulating our economy. House Republicans are committed to fiscal responsibility. We have passed a budget. We have presented a plan for jobs that empowers families, businesses and entrepreneurs to create jobs, not government. It's time for the White House and Congressional Democrats to consider the plans put forward by House Republicans or present credible ideas of their own."
