Today, Congressman Rick Berg released the following statement in response to President Obama's announced intentions to release 30 million barrels of oil from the strategic petroleum reserve:
"It is stunning that President Obama would rather tap into our nation's emergency oil supply than support common sense legislation that would allow the American energy sector to grow and create good American jobs," Congressman Berg stated. "Rather than depleting our reserves, and in essence saying to the world that our energy security relies on the stability of foreign nations, the President should look to North Dakota, where good policy has strengthened our economy and increased energy production within our own borders. Washington needs a comprehensive long-term energy plan that would break our dependence on foreign oil and create thousands of good America jobs. While the House has passed numerous pieces of legislation that will spur domestic energy production and work toward our long term energy goals, the President's announcement is a clear step backwards as our nation seeks energy independence."
