Huizenga Statement on President Obama's Afghanistan Announcement

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Rep. Bill Huizenga, MI-02, released the following statement after President Barack Obama's announcement that he would end the Afghanistan "surge" and withdraw 33,000 U.S. troops from Afghanistan by September 2012:

"I hope this decision is based on sound military policy, not politics. We need to listen to our military experts. After 10 years, I know we eventually have to come home, but ultimately, I'm very sensitive to listening to what our commanders on the ground say is the right course of action for our military and to support the transition to Afghanistan Security Forces taking the lead on security in short order."
