Find and Kill Egg Masses & 1st Stage Nymphs in Early Summer

Congressman Roscoe Bartlett said, "I want to make sure that you are aware that now is the time that each of us can most effectively help ourselves, our neighbors and our environment and contribute to the effort against the brown marmorated stink bug (BMSB) by finding and killing stink bug egg masses and the first stage nymphs. Below are summaries, but I urge you to read all of the details in the full text online from both The Frederick News Post and The Baltimore Sun. The numbers of stink bugs in natural areas is so much larger than those that wintered in our homes that eliminating them in early summer from our yards won't eliminate the threat to American agriculture from the BMSB. There is an active partnership of government and private sector scientists and organizations working with farmers and racing to find long term effective methods of controlling the BMSB. However, now is the time that we can each do something as individuals that will help a little to combat this dangerous pest that eats and destroys so many crops, fruits and vegetables as well as threatens the livelihoods of our local farmers and growers. Doing a little that will help us all is far better than doing nothing at all."
