Scalise Passes Amendment on House Floor Blocking Reckless Climate Change Regulations

Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Steve Scalise today passed an amendment to the Agriculture Appropriations Bill prohibiting funds from being used to implement a new U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) regulation requiring agencies to spend taxpayer dollars to study and implement climate change policies and initiatives. The amendment passed by a vote of 238 to 179.

"The USDA's new climate change regulation constitutes a backdoor attempt to implement the Administration's job-killing cap and trade scheme," Scalise said. "Not only is this a waste of taxpayer dollars, but it will lead to higher costs and lost jobs for farmers, while also increasing the price of food on American families at a time when we can least afford it. We need to cut wasteful Washington spending and end these radical policies that are killing American jobs."

The regulation issued by the USDA in June also allows USDA agencies funds for legal investigations they deem necessary to carry out this regulation.
