Marino: Time to Return to 2008 Levels of Drilling in U.S.

Press Release

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Rep. Tom Marino, PA-10, said he disagrees with President Obama's decision to release 60 million barrels of oil into the world market over the next month to offset the disruption in the oil supply caused by unrest in the Middle East.

The President's announcement was made Thursday as gasoline prices continued to drop.

Marino opposes the use of the emergency supply and would prefer the President took measures to encourage oil drilling in the United States which would create jobs for Americans.

"It's time we started to put our country first and did something to help put Americans back to work," Marino said. "I'd like to see us return to our 2008 levels of drilling."

Marino noted that the emergency supply is a small amount and its main purpose is to keep America running in case of a major supply disruption. Releasing the reserve jeopardizes national security, Marino said, while saving American consumers a small amount at the gas pump.

A report issued Friday by the Americans for Limited Government estimates that the release of 60 million barrels of oil over a 30-day period would save about 10 cents per gallon for gasoline.
