Discusses Jobs and the Recent Storm Damage

U.S. Congressman Robert J. Dold (IL-10) held a roundtable with mayors from the 10th Congressional District to discuss ways to stimulate job creation, as well as to talk about the recent storm damage and how local communities are responding. At the roundtable, Kent McKenzie, Emergency Management Coordinator for Lake County EMA, gave a presentation on preparing for natural disasters.

"I was pleased to meet with so many mayors from the 10th District today," said Dold. "This is the first of many roundtables I plan to have with local elected officials. There is no better way to find solutions to problems then by starting at the community level. These leaders know their towns better than anyone else and their ideas to spur job creation, as well as how to increase communication during natural disasters, is inspiring. I look forward to continuing the dialogue and working together to help the people we all represent."

Congressman Dold talked with the mayors about his jobs task force which he works with on a regular basis to find ways to encourage small businesses to expand and hire new workers. He also spoke about the pending free trade agreements in Congress and how their passage would help manufacturers throughout the 10th District. Dold spoke with the mayors about their ideas to encourage growth throughout their communities.

Emergency Management Coordinator Kent McKenzie gave a presentation on emergency management and included important safety instructions for communities to follow. In light of the recent severe weather that plagued the region, the presentation was particularly helpful for those who have been working hard to get their communities up and running again. McKenzie recommended that all families have emergency kits at their home in case a situation like this were to occur again in the near future.

Rep. Dold is a third-generation resident of the 10th District of Illinois. As a small business owner, he has faced many of the challenges confronting business leaders today and is using that firsthand experience in Washington to help find ways to create more jobs and strengthen the economy.
