Fattah Statement: Obama's Innovation Partnership Can Win the Future

Statement

Congressman Chaka Fattah (D-PA-02), a member of the House Appropriations Committee, issues the following statement on President Obama's visit today to the Carnegie Mellon University National Robotics Engineering Center in Pittsburgh:

"President Obama has taken another major stride today toward the "renaissance in American manufacturing' he seeks to help our nation win the future. The President is to be commended for investing $500 million to team up government with companies and universities under the Advanced Manufacturing Partnership. And he's doing the job with existing federal funds, not new spending.

"America's manufacturing sector has been on the rebound for the past two years, and this Administration's policies are designed to make that bounce even higher. Orders for durable goods exceeded the Dow Jones prediction for May, and reversed a one-time dip in April.

"The President's visit to Pittsburgh and Carnegie-Mellon shows the way for a new generation of U.S.-made high-technology products in robotics, alternative energy, metal fabrication, batteries, composites, and biotechnology. As the President demonstrated today, the future is bright for American can-do ingenuity and innovation."
