Wilson: "It Is Time to End the War in Afghanistan and Bring Our Troops Home"

Rep. Frederica Wilson (FL-17), a member of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, today released the following statement in support of a drawdown of U.S. forces in Afghanistan following President Obama's announcement that he will withdraw 10,000 troops from Afghanistan by the end of the year and over 30,000 troops total by the end of 2012:

"It is time to end the War in Afghanistan and bring our troops home.

"I believe we need a sizeable, swift, and responsible reduction of troop levels to reunite our military families, refocus our priorities, and reinvest in jobs, education, and health care here at home. I applaud President Obama for fulfilling his promise of beginning a drawdown of troops this year. I only wish we could accelerate the process.

"The War in Afghanistan is the longest war in U.S. history and has cost us too many lives and immeasurable resources. Our men and women in uniform have fought valiantly and their families have sacrificed tremendously, but after a decade of fighting, it is time to bring our troops home once and for all."
