Statement From Congressman Tom Reed on President Obama's Speech on Afghanistan:

Location: Unknown

"I was pleased to hear that the President intends to withdraw troops from Afghanistan in a cautious manner as opposed to making a massive withdrawal. With the recent elimination of Osama Bin Laden and the fragmentation of al Qaeda, I am cautiously optimistic that we're getting to the point where we can begin winding down the engagement. However, we need to be careful about being tied to an arbitrary political timeline.

When the generals on the ground say that the threat there has been eliminated, then it will be time for further withdrawal. Although we may be at a turning point in Afghanistan, we have to continue to be vigilant and understand that there are people whose goal is to destroy the United States. We cannot let our guard down."
