Issue Position

America's health care system is in need of reform. The United States spends more on health care than any other industrialized nation. Too many Americans worry about how they will pay for their family's health care costs and too many individuals do not have health insurance. It is a priority of mine in Congress to ensure that all Americans have access to affordable quality health care. In doing so, it's important that we establish reforms that put individuals in control of making personal health care decisions, not elected officials or Washington bureaucrats.

I am opposed to the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, also referred to as Obamacare, which President Obama signed into law on March 23, 2010. This new law will make tremendous changes to our nation's health care system. Obamacare will negatively impact America's health care system and drastically expand the role of the federal government.

I support repealing Obamacare and replacing it with solutions that will drive down health care costs and encourage free market principles, which will increase competition and innovation. Some of these reforms include: medical tort reform, allowing health insurance to be purchased across state lines, providing states with greater flexibility in implementing Medicaid, and sustaining health savings accounts.
