U.S. Rep. Karen Bass released the following statement in solidarity with Saudi Arabian women participating in the Women2Drive Campaign today. Last month, after visiting Iraq, Rep. Bass was in Saudi Arabia and learned more about this initiative. The statement follows:

"The right to drive is a basic freedom that must be afforded to all women everywhere in the world. Today's protest by women in Saudi Arabia demands our praise and support. Nobody should be treated like second-class citizens, certainly not all women in a particular country. The brave female Saudis expressing their individual rights in peace are leaders of a movement working to promote equality and I applaud their efforts."
