Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4) is calling on President Obama and congressional liberals to get on board with a proposal designed to tackle the debt while helping business owners create jobs. The call comes on the heels of this week's jobs reports showing the private sector created only 38,000 jobs last month and that unemployment benefit claims fell less than expected last week.
"It should come as no surprise that one of the reasons we're experiencing the slowest economic and jobs recovery in modern memory is because businesses of all sizes are dealing with high levels of uncertainty," said Hartzler. "As a small business owner, I know that employers are concerned about our historic debt leading to higher taxes -- taxes that stand in the way of innovation, expansion, and job creation. We have to cut taxes and stop spending money we don't have if we are to put Americans back to work."
The $1 trillion stimulus package was a failure," added Hartzler. "Proof of that is 27 straight months of national unemployment at or above eight percent. This week's disappointing jobs reports point to an urgent need for a solid job creation plan. The proposal I am working on with my House colleagues is a plan to take on the national debt and to help business owners create jobs without raising taxes on working families and small businesses."
