Pelosi: President's Intelligence Commission 'Wholly Owned by the Executive Branch'
Washington, D.C.-House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi released the following statement today on President Bush's appointment of a commission to investigate intelligence failures in Iraq:
"The quality of our intelligence is an essential component of our national security. We had an opportunity to have a truly independent commission that could have brought fresh eyes to the subject. Instead, we have a commission wholly owned by the executive branch investigating the executive branch.
"To have a commission appointed exclusively by President Bush investigate his Administration's intelligence failures in Iraq does not inspire confidence in its independence."
