Congresswoman Chellie Pingree issued the following statement today, on the 10th anniversary of the start of the Bush tax cuts.
"American families are living paycheck to paycheck while the average millionaire is getting over $100,000 a year in tax breaks. Meanwhile, Republicans are calling for massive cuts in Medicare and Medicaid. You can't keep asking middle-class families and seniors to make sacrifices to balance the budget while giving massive tax breaks to millionaires and big corporations. The Bush tax cuts that went into effect ten years ago today are part of the reason for massive budget deficits, and now average Americans are being asked to make sacrifices to pay for those giveaways."
