U.S. Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) applaud the unanimous passage of their resolution (S.Res.172) designating May 2011 as "National Cancer Research Month." Their resolution recognizes the importance of cancer research and the contributions made by scientists and clinicians that are committed to finding a cure for cancer.

"Thanks to the dedicated physicians and scientists around the country, countless promising cancer research projects are now underway," Sen. Feinstein said. "National Cancer Research Month recognizes those contributions that are enhancing the standard of care today and will save the lives of patients tomorrow."

"I am proud that my colleagues in the Senate have joined with us to show their commitment to cancer research and finding a cure for one of the most deadly diseases facing our country. Thousands of Americans lose their battle to cancer each year. But through the committed efforts of scientists and hospitals around the country, great strides are being made to discover cures and treatments to change this sad reality. By raising awareness about early detection and prevention as well as prioritizing research to treat and cure cancer, I am confident we will one day win this fight," said Sen. Hutchison.
