Bachmann Releases Statement after Voting to Extend National Security Provisions

Statement

Date: May 26, 2011
Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (MN-06) released the following statement upon voting for the expiring national security provisions tonight:

"This evening I was faced with a vexing vote on three national security measures that would expire at midnight. I know there are strong opinions about these provisions, and I am convinced they will continue to stem the very real threat of terrorism on our soil.

"For decades, law enforcement has had access to roving wiretaps and the ability to subpoena business records, and our national security community must continue to catch terrorists through the same methods. Civil liberties in these instances are still upheld because court orders are necessary before action can be taken.

"Since 9/11, we have seen our intelligence community break up terrorist plots and keep our citizens safe. By upholding these provisions, we will ensure that the threats of modern terrorism are addressed."
