Congressman Dan Benishek (MI-01) today released the following statement:
"Today I supported an amendment to the Defense Authorization bill that would diminish our nation's role in the ongoing conflict in Afghanistan. As the parent of a soldier who served in the Afghan conflict, I full heartedly support the work our armed forces are doing to defend America's freedom abroad.
While I will continue to support our troops, I know Americans have growing reservations about a decade long war that has cost American lives and seems to have no end in sight. Following the death of terror leader Osama bin Laden, I believe Congress, the White House, and the Defense Department should work together to reevaluate our mission in Afghanistan, and responsibly limit the U.S. military presence in the region."
