Congressman Bill Cassidy, M.D., today released the following statementregarding his vote against raising the debt limit.
"Under President Obama, the previous Democrat led Congress raised the debt limit three times, increasing our debt by an astonishing $2.979 trillion. All the while, our economy remains anemic and unemployment remains unacceptably high. Washington can no longer be trusted with a blank check endorsed by the American taxpayers.
"Tonight, House Republicans sent a message to President Obama, Secretary Geithner and House Democrats that they must abandon their plans for a clean debt limit increase and come to the table with serious budget reforms that will create jobs and save our country from national bankruptcy. We can no longer afford to keep living beyond our means; we must cut up the government credit card."
