U.S. Rep. Frank Guinta Co-Sponsors Bill Creating National Gold Star Mothers Memorial

Just weeks after New Hampshire dedicated the new Gold Star Mothers New England Regional Monument in Manchester, U.S. Representative Frank Guinta (R, NH-01) is an original co-sponsor of a bill authorizing a national monument to them in Washington, DC.

Gold Star mothers are mothers who lost a child in military service to our country.

Representative Jon Runyan (R, NJ) introduced H.R. 1980, "The Gold Star Mothers National Monument Act of 2011," on Wednesday. This bi-partisan legislation would authorize the Gold Star Mothers National Monument Foundation to build a Gold Star Mothers National Monument on federal land within the District of Columbia. The bill does not authorize any federal funding to be used on the Monument. All funds would be raised privately by the Gold Star Mothers National Monument Foundation.

"Gold Star Mothers sacrificed their children for our country's freedom," Guinta said. "A national memorial honoring them is America's way of saying "thank you'. I am honored to co-sponsor this bill that recognizes the precious gift they gave their country."

Congressman Runyan said, "I am thrilled to introduce legislation that means so much to so many mothers who have lost a loved one in service to our country. Gold Star mothers have given us so much; it's time that we give something back."
