Congressman McIntyre Votes Against Debt Ceiling Increase

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Representative Mike McIntyre voted last night against a measure to increase the nation's debt ceiling from $14.294 trillion to $16.7 trillion.

Congressman McIntyre stated, "Our debt problem has reached a level that is unsustainable and must be addressed with common sense solutions that include spending cuts. I voted against this bill to increase the debt because we have to send a message that the same old ways will not do. That's why I am supporting the Blue Dog Benchmarks for Fiscal Reform which aim to cut $4 trillion over the next decade. For too long the tough choices have not been made, and Congress needs to stop the partisan bickering, work together, and pass a compromise that reduces the deficit, ensures our nation's global prosperity, and cuts spending."
