Last week, I continued my town hall tour in Dublin, Eastman and Fitzgerald. I was fortunate to engage in a conversation with hundreds of constituents who offered thoughtful insight and questions about the issues that mean the most to Georgians. Making sure your views and concerns are heard in Washington is the highest priority for me as your Representative in Congress and I appreciate the opportunity to serve you.
This week I want to invite you to become further engaged in the Legislative process. House Republicans recently launched the second phase of our successful YouCut program. Each week, Americans can go to www.MajorityLeader.gov/YouCut, and vote for one of three spending cuts proposals. "YouCut Phase II" includes a timeline that allows the American people to track the winning vote through the entire law making process.
Since its launch a little more than a year ago, millions of Americans have cast their votes encouraging Congress to cut spending. That is exactly what we continue to do. Recently, Majority Leader Eric Cantor turned the program over to the Freshman Republicans and charged us to take what we hear at our town hall meetings and turn them into bills.
I have drafted three YouCut proposals that are currently on the site. Washington has a spending problem and if we are going to get off this path of fiscal destruction, we must continue to make robust cuts and rid ourselves of wasteful and duplicative programs; these proposals aim to do just that. I need you to help decide which proposal should make it to the Floor for a vote.
Just as I like to be as informed as possible before I cast a vote on your behalf, I want to make sure you have the opportunity to learn about the provisions I am proposing to cut. Over the next several days, I will send out three separate e-mails to highlight each proposal. If you have not already, please go to http://austinscott.house.gov/contact-me/newsletter, and sign up for my e-mail updates. With your help, we will get our country back on a fiscally responsible path.
I am grateful to serve as your Representative in Congress. Please continue to share your questions, ideas and concerns with me so that I may best represent you.
