Congresswoman Hartzler promotes legislation to protect Second Amendment rights

Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4) is on the forefront of an effort to protect and extend the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans. She co-sponsors three bills to be taken up by the House of Representatives: the National Right to Carry Reciprocity Act; the Veterans' Heritage Firearms Act; and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) Reform Act of 2011.
"The National Right to Carry Reciprocity Act will allow anyone with a valid concealed carry permit to carry a concealed firearm in any state that issues permits to carry," said Hartzler. "This will give law-abiding gun owners with concealed carry permits the same rights as licensed drivers who cross state lines. A permit issued by one state would be recognized as valid in another state that issues these permits."
"The Veterans' Heritage Firearms Act gives World War II and Korean War veterans who acquired war relic firearms overseas a break from federal requirements regarding the guns they brought home," added Hartzler. "This will correct a law that currently treats World War II and Korean War-era veterans like criminals for not registering these war relic firearms with the federal government. These war heroes deserve to be respected -- not hassled by their federal government!"
"The BATFE Reform Act amends the federal criminal code to simplify and clarify the rules regarding violations of firearms laws," Hartzler added. "This will protect firearms dealers and gun owners from unnecessary and unwanted federal government burdens."
"The Second Amendment protects a fundamental individual right to keep and bear arms," concluded Hartzler. "It is imperative that this constitutional right not be compromised. I am proud to help lead this effort on behalf of law-respecting gun owners of America."
Vicky Hartzler was elected to Congress on November 2, 2011. She serves on the House Armed Services Committee and the House Agriculture Committee.
