Senator John Kerry (D-Mass.) today released the following statement after President Obama nominated Kathy Kerrigan to be a judge on the U.S. Tax Court. A Massachusetts native, Kerrigan has worked in Congress for fourteen years, six of them with Senator Kerry. She is currently serving as Senator Kerry's Tax Counsel.
"I couldn't be more pleased that President Obama has nominated a member of my Senate staff for such an important position. For those of us who know Kathy, this isn't a surprise. She's been a highly creative, go-to staffer on the Hill for fourteen years on the most complex tax policy issues and she understands the tax code inside and out. Frankly, she knows tax policy frighteningly well, and has been a trusted aide for me in all my work on the Finance Committee. She is tough as hell in negotiations and she always delivers. She will be a phenomenal tax judge, and she will continue to make Massachusetts proud."
