"Offshore Production and Safety Act" Aims to Reduce Pain at the Pump
U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) voted today to approve the "Offshore Production and Safety Act" (S. 953) - legislation that would expand offshore domestic oil and gas production, improve the safety and reliability of offshore energy production, and ensure that offshore drilling permits are issued in a timely manner. A Republican attempt to invoke cloture (end debate) on the bill was not agreed to by a vote of 42 to 57.
"Unlocking America's domestic sources of oil and gas is an important first step toward reducing prices at the gas pump. The bill I voted for would restore America's offshore production, advance the drilling permitting process, and put in place responsible safety requirements," said Senator Ayotte. "Given the urgent need to expand our energy production, I was disappointed that Democrats blocked this common sense bill from coming to a final vote."
