U.S. Congressman Phil Roe, M.D. (TN-01), a member of the House Energy Action Team (HEAT), released the following statement on H.R. 1231, the Reversing President Obama's Offshore Moratorium Act:

"In an effort to promote energy policies that will lower gas prices, I voted for the Reversing President Obama's Offshore Moratorium Act. H.R. 1231 lifts President Obama's ban on offshore drilling and requires the Administration to establish a five-year offshore lease plan in productive areas with the goal of producing three million barrels of oil a day by 2027. A moratorium on domestic energy production only increases our dependence on foreign oil.

"Passage of this legislation is an important step forward toward energy independence because it lifts regulations that are contributing to even higher petroleum and energy prices. I urge passage in the Senate because we need to do everything we can to ensure high gas prices are not a permanent fixture."
