U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-FL), Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, will manage debate during House consideration of H.R. 1016, the Assessing Progress in Haiti Act. Statement by Ros-Lehtinen:
"I am proud that the U.S. has played a key role in relief and recovery efforts in Haiti in the wake of last year's devastating earthquake.
"Later today, I will lead a discussion on the House floor on a bill which requires the President to report to Congress on the progress of relief, recovery, and developments efforts in Haiti. This report will help Congress and the Administration keep tabs on the rebuilding projects and programs in Haiti in order to make sure that they run smoothly, help the intended recipients, achieve the intended goals, and are not derailed by waste, duplication, or corruption.
"The U.S. remains committed to the Haitian people as they recover from the devastation of last year's earthquake."
