Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick Participates in Ride-Along with Montgomery County Second Alarmers Association

Ride-Along coincides with national EMS week

Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick today participated in a "ride-along" with members of the Montgomery County Second Alarmers Association and Rescue Squad based in Willow Grove, Pennsylvania.

"It is important to see firsthand what our first responder community experiences on a daily basis," said Fitzpatrick. "As elected officials it is crucial to the safety of our community to understand and support our local EMS community. I'm excited to have the opportunity to see their daily work."

Fitzpatrick recently introduced the Danny McIntosh Emergency Medical Service Providers Protection Act (H.R. 1668) to support the local EMS community. H.R. 1668 would extend Public Safety Officer Benefits to the families of volunteer emergency service personnel who die in the line of duty. Current federal law limits these benefits only to emergency service personnel employed by governmental units.

"Congressman Fitzpatrick has been a supporter of first responders and we're glad to have the opportunity to have him join us today," said Jamie Haddon, Executive Director of the Second Alarmers. "Support from our elected officials and legislation like the Danny McIntosh Act are critical to our work."

The Second Alarmers Association and Rescue Squad of Montgomery County has grown to become one of the largest private not-for-profit pre-hospital Emergency Medical Service providers in the region, responding to over 12,000 emergency 911 incidents each year. The Second Alarmers is a combination department composed of 100 volunteer and 123 career members, delivering service from five stations with 22 vehicles, including twelve advanced life support ambulances.
