Taxing American Energy

On Tuesday, Washington Democrats unveiled yet another obstacle to producing lower cost American energy -- a tax hike on energy producers. In doing so they acknowledged that this effort will not lower the price of gas. Senator McConnell spoke out against the plan to raise taxes on American energy production. Our Debt Crisis

Following a meeting with President Obama on Thursday to discuss our nation's debt crisis, Senator McConnell sat down with a reporter from the Courier-Journal to talk about what Congress must do to reduce the federal budget deficit and tackle our nation's debt. National Police Survivors Day

This week, the Senate adopted a resolution Senator McConnell co-sponsored designating May 14, 2011, as "National Police Survivors Day." The resolution calls on the nation to recognize the families of those law enforcement officers who have fallen in the line of duty and pay respect to the courageous men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice while serving to keep our communities safe.

Senator McConnell said, "This resolution honors the family members of our law-enforcement officers who keep our towns and communities safe and those who have lost their lives in the line of duty. The Senate, and I personally, have the deepest admiration and respect for police officers in every community. We recognize theirs is both an honorable job and a dangerous one and they bravely risk their lives for ours. We appreciate all they do. And America is grateful to them and their families."

On Thursday, Senator McConnell also met with members of the Kentucky Fraternal Order of Police to discuss issues important to our law enforcment officers, including support for several Kentucky regional anti-drug task force programs.

Heartland Coalition of Military Veterans

Senator McConnell met with two members of the Heartland Coalition of Military Veterans who were in Washington this week. Gary Rice is a member of the Chapter 003 Disabled American Veterans and a DAV Veteran Service Officer. Clint Meshew is Chairman of the Heartland Coalition of Military Veterans and a NCOA National Veteran Service Officer.

Louisville's St. Gabriel School

Senator McConnell also welcomed the 8th grade class of Louisville's St. Gabriel School to Washington, D.C. this week. He met with them on the steps of the U.S. Capitol and thanked them for stopping by to visit.
