Congressman Mel Watt (12th District of North Carolina) made the following statement regarding a roundtable discussion on the arts that he is hosting prior to the reception and announcement of the winner of the annual 12th Congressional District high school art competition at the Milton Rhodes Center for the Arts in Winston-Salem on Friday, May 6 from 5 -- 6:30 PM.

"Art is all around us as an integral component of neighborhood revitalization, economic growth, social and academic development and public engagement. Therefore, prior to the announcement of the winner of the annual 12th Congressional District high school art competition, I am convening a roundtable discussion of professional artists, curators, art educators, arts and science council members and public officials to discuss the importance of art to neighborhood revitalization and education in the 12th Congressional District. I look forward to having this discussion with my constituents and friends about these important matters."
