Partnership

Statement

Date: May 13, 2011

Aloha everyone.

We're now undergoing a massive transformation to get government working again.

One of the hallmarks of that transformation is empowering community partners. We are listening and integrating new ideas into our plans.

This week I met with more than a hundred healthcare providers from all over the state to talk about how we will face the severe challenges in front of us: funding shortages, out-dated strategies and approaches, lack of coordination, and an ever-increasing number of people in need.

With partners in the health care community, we have announced plans to expand access to a new model of health care that treats the person and not just the disease or condition.

We need to reduce costs--yes--but at the same time we are making investments in approaches that will improve the quality of care for our people and save the state money.

Whether it concerns health care, or education, or our environment, we are not deterred by a shortage of resources. In partnership with the many critically-important organizations and individuals in our community, we are going to transform government into something that will make everyone in this great state proud.

Imua Hawaii!
