No Taxpayer Funding on Abortion Act

Press Release

Today H.R. 3, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, passed in the House of Representatives. Congressman Nunnelee (R-Miss) is a co-sponsor of the measure which establishes a permanent government-wide prohibition on taxpayer subsidies for abortion and abortion coverage, codifies existing conscience protections with an added enforcement mechanism and closes certain loopholes that give tax-preferred status to abortion.

"I am a firm believer that every innocent life must be protected, and that hardworking taxpayers should not pay for elective abortions. Polling numbers routinely show that the majority of Americans value life and agree that they should not be required to pay for abortion coverage with their federal taxes," said Nunnelee.

"H.R. 3 simply helps codify the already existing, bipartisan Hyde Amendment by enforcing a government-wide prohibition on subsidies for abortion and abortion coverage. Abortion is not health care, instead it is a horrific procedure that ends the lives of innocent unborn children, and therefore should not be subsidized by the government and the American people against their will."
