Today, Congressman Billy Long fought for the rights of the unborn as he voted for H.R. 3, the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortions Act.
Congressman Long, an original cosponsor of the No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act, believed a sweeping bill was needed that would permanently prohibit taxpayer funding of abortions in every federal program and consolidate separate policies that prevented government funding for abortions.
"I am 100 percent pro-life," said Long. "I believe in the sanctity of human life, that life begins at conception, and in protecting the rights of the unborn. We cannot attack the taxpayer funding of abortion in a piecemeal fashion. We need to do away with the brutal practice of taxpayer funded abortion once and for all."
The No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act would also eliminate subsidies and tax loopholes created under Obamacare, which indirectly provide funding for elective abortions. Yet another example of hidden provisions in the partisan health care law passed by the Democrats last year.
"Abortion is not healthcare," said Long. "Today, we seek to fulfill another pledge we made to the people of Southwest Missouri--that no federal funds would support the heinous practice of abortion."
Congressman Long is a member of the Pro-Life Caucus. In Congress, Long has co-sponsored several pro-life bills. If passed, these bills will establish that life begins at conception, prevent tax payer dollars from funding abortions, and ensure that no funds provided under Title X should be awarded to entities which perform services for, or provide funds to, another entity which performs abortions.
