Congresswoman Hartzler Spends Mother's Day with the Troops in Afghanistan

Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler (MO-4), a member of the House Armed Services Committee, has returned to the U.S. after leading a congressional delegation to Afghanistan and meeting with American troops.

"It was an honor to bring the heart and appreciation of the American people to our troops on this Mother's Day weekend," said Hartzler. "We wanted them to know we appreciate their service and sacrifice away from their families on behalf of a valiant cause."

"The visit reinforced my deep admiration for our American troops who are serving in Afghanistan," added Hartzler. "There's no better way to get on-the-ground perspective than to visit and talk to the troops directly. Our troops are the real experts and provided real insight on the situation. They spoke with me about gains they are making in the effort to improve security and to prevent the country from being used as a safe haven for al Qaeda and the Taliban. It would be a mistake to withdraw from Afghanistan before the job is done. Our withdrawal should be based on achievements--not political calculations."

Joining Congresswoman Hartzler as part of the congressional delegation were Congresswomen Susan Davis (D-CA), Niki Tsongas (D-MA), Martha Roby (R-AL), Cathy McMorris-Rodgers (R-WA), and Donna Edwards (D-MD).

Vicky Hartzler was elected to Congress on November 2, 2010. She is a member of the House Armed Services Committee and the House Agriculture Committee.
