Broun Statement on Passage of First GOP Energy Bill

Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Congressman Paul Broun, M.D., Member of the House Committee on Natural Resources, today released the following statement after voting in favor of H.R. 1230, the Restarting American Offshore Leasing Now Act:

"It is long past time for the Obama Administration to get out of the way of American energy production. I am proud of House Republicans for taking the first step today toward making that happen," said Congressman Broun. "H.R. 1230 has the potential to create thousands of jobs and reduce our dependency on foreign oil -- which also means lower gas prices. Most importantly, this bill would generate millions of dollars in both private sector and government revenue, and that's exactly what our economy needs right now."

H.R. 1230 requires the Secretary of the Interior to conduct oil and natural gas lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico and offshore Virginia that have been delayed or cancelled by the Obama Administration.
