On Wednesday, April 4, 2011, Congressman Woodall (R-GA) joined 251 members in voting in passing H.R. 3, the "No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act." The bill establishes a government-wide prohibition on funding abortions except in cases of rape, incest or when a woman's life is in danger. The Congressman issued the following statement:
"For over 30 years, a variety of policies have regulated federal funding of abortions, but thanks to this bipartisan comprehensive bill, American taxpayer dollars will no longer fund the abortion industry. I am committed to defending the defenseless and protecting the lives of precious, unborn children. During this economic crisis when the federal government is borrowing forty-two cents of every dollar it spends, surely we can agree as a nation that abortions are not a national priority requiring this borrowing. Although our fight against abortion is by no means over, H.R. 3 is a huge step in the right direction, ensuring that no American is forced to fund the abortion industry."
