House Republicans Vote to Put the Gulf Back to Work

Location: Washington, DC

House Republican Policy Committee Chairman Tom Price, M.D. (R-GA) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed the Putting the Gulf Back to Work Act which would safely end the de facto moratorium ("permitorium") on offshore energy production imposed by the Obama Administration.

"The Obama Administration's continued resistance to the production of American-made energy is indefensible," said Chairman Price. "The moratorium on offshore exploration in the Gulf of Mexico has cost thousands of American jobs, and it will make our nation more dependent on foreign sources of energy. Instead of begging foreign governments, House Republicans are committed to policies that promote domestic energy production. This will not only help America better control its energy future, but it will also encourage job creation and economic growth here at home. The White House should stop building barriers either in the energy sector or elsewhere that make it harder for companies to invest and hire more of our neighbors."
