From Chula Vista:
As a constituent and a supporter of Defenders of Wildlife, I want to thank you for voting against H.R. 872.
As you know, the U.S. Geologic Survey found pesticides (or their byproducts) in every stream they sampled across America. These poisons are incredibly harmful to fish, amphibians and other wildlife that depend on clean, unpolluted water.
Clearly more -- not less -- should be done to protect our waters and our wildlife from pesticide pollution.
Thank you for taking a stand against the makers of these chemicals and their allies in Congress. Such leadership on conservation issues is unfortunately all too rare and I appreciate your vote on this important issue.
Please keep fighting for our wildlife and our environment. There are plenty of people like me who appreciate your efforts.
Congressman Filner replies:
Thank you for contacting me to express your support for my vote against H.R. 872, legislation that would exempt pesticides from the Clean Water Act (CWA).
I share your concern for the environment and agree that pesticides should not be exempt from our nation's environmental laws.
I appreciate your kind words regarding my opposition to this bill.
