U.S. Senator Pat Toomey (R-Pa.) issued the following statement in honor of Israel Independence Day:
"I join Israel in celebrating the 63rd anniversary of its independence and in remembering the many men and women who have lost their lives in defense of Israel. For over six decades, the Jewish State has been a symbol of democratic courage in the Middle East and around the world. Without question, Israel is the United States' closest ally and friend in the region and among its best allies in the world. I consider myself fortunate to have the opportunity to visit Israel again in just a couple of weeks."
