Gov. Jay Nixon today issued the following statement, announcing that Director of Agriculture Jon Hagler will survey flood damage and meet with farm families in southeast Missouri tomorrow and Friday:
"Historic flooding in southeast Missouri is affecting families, businesses and entire communities, and it is having an especially devastating impact on farm families. For that reason, I have asked Director of Agriculture Jon Hagler to travel to the Bootheel immediately to survey the situation and meet with local family farmers, agribusinesses and others affected by the flooding to discuss how to move forward with recovery and rebuilding as quickly as possible. Agriculture is the backbone of Missouri's economy, and it's critical that we get farms in southeast Missouri moving forward again. This personal visit by Missouri's agriculture chief will be another important step in that process."
During his visit, Director Hagler will lead roundtable discussions with farm families, businesses and others in Charleston, New Madrid and Caruthersville. The Department of Agriculture will release details on those roundtables this evening.
