Congressman Ben Quayle (R-AZ) released the following statement Friday after the Department of Labor released its April unemployment report:
"April's unemployment report shows some improvement on the jobs' front but not nearly enough. Just yesterday, the Labor Department reported 474,000 jobless claims for the last week of April. America's economic health cannot be restored until the jobless claims are dramatically reduced. Congress must continue to promote a more competitive economic environment by taking serious steps to rein in mandatory federal spending and reduce the size and scope of government.
"Although shrinking the federal government will continue to have a positive impact on economic growth, rising gasoline prices threaten the limited progress we've made in the past few months. That's why the Republican House on Thursday passed H.R. 1230, the Restarting American Offshore Leasing Now Act, which requires the Secretary of the Interior to restart domestic energy projects either delayed or cancelled by the Obama Administration. The legislation is the first in a series of actions by the Republican House designed to lower gas prices, grow the economy and create jobs."
