Congressman Paul Tonko released the following statement after President Obama's announcement last evening that U.S. forces have killed Osama Bin Laden:
"Eliminating Osama Bin Laden is a huge step in achieving justice for the families and victims of the terrible tragedy that occurred on our nation's soil on September 11, 2001.
"I want to commend President Barack Obama as well as the men and women in uniform and in our intelligence community for their great leadership and success in this mission. It is a testament to the professionalism and dedicated nature of our national security team that no Americans were injured in this operation. We are also reminded of the strength and sacrifice of the families of those who serve.
"Osama bin Laden wreaked untold havoc in our country and around the world. We must remain vigilant, because the threat of terrorism continues to be very real. However, the expressions of many gathering around the United States last night and today speaks to our collective relief of our relentless pursuit to conquer this dangerous terrorist. His capture is a testament to America's ideals and values -- as we continue to stand up for a world that values justice, democracy and peace."
